Loved the blog post on audiophile grade mastering.
I would like to hear your thoughts on a related question on mixing and mastering.
Often when referencing music for level and frequency balance, the best references are mastered “louder” than I personally care for because I prefer more “open” and dynamic results with more headroom than is currently typical.
Any thoughts on interpretation and translation faced with this frequent dilemma would be appreciated.
Thanks for sharing
Mark Bliss

Thanks for your comments.

Been doing this for years. What i find is that simplicity works best – usually, but not always. But it sets up a totally new horizon, musically, to work with. I’ve found that there is no “way” to do things so I was glad to read that in your blog. Really good advice. I feel more self assured. But you didn’t mention the fact that a high bit rate has to be dithered down – especially for CD format – to a 1970s mode of playback (which hasn’t changed at all in 40 yrs). That’s the biggest limitation for headroom and loudness.

Thank you for yours guidelines about mastering. You should be able to write a book about the art of mastering…
